This week the Engineering and Design classes celebrated Engineers’ Week with lab challenges! All cohorts participated in a Water Rocket Lab led by a guest engineer from Lockheed Martin. Learners explored the relationships between force, mass, and acceleration using water-powered rockets and their knowledge of Newton’s Laws of Motion.
Additional lab activities included Cohort D’s Earthquake Architecture Challenge and Cohort C’s Function of a Catapult Lab (to be continued next week). Cohort D is working to discover which shapes are most stable when constructing a building. Their faux buildings were put to the test on Jello Tectonic Plates and shaken using simulated P and S waves.
Cohort C is experimenting with simple machines and the quadratic formula. Can they engineer the perfect catapult trajectory? Stay tuned to find out!
