Message from the Director
Dear Learners and Families,
What’s happening at EG?
Happy February! As the month opens, Orientation closes. Learners have begun presenting their 7 Habits projects and are preparing to begin an iLEAD Online class. Learners have also participated in their first “official” workshop! Workshop 1 allows learners to practice sentence writing strategies by exploring the mechanics of Chromebooks. Through this workshop, learners are preparing not only for their English courses but for their online classes and the workplace.
Teaching workshops allow facilitators to enjoy the benefits of small group teaching. Small groups, as opposed to large classes, are more easily learner-centered. Small groups can help learners learn to collaborate and communicate and, “in addition to the content of the class, the group process itself becomes a learning tool. Participating in classes can help students to learn things, including successful collaboration and effective task sharing techniques, interpersonal skills, listening skills, verbal communication skills, and the synergy that can result from group discussions. A group can often produce a higher quality solution to a problem than an individual is capable of alone.”
Learners, please reach out on days that you are absent. My direct line is (661) 537-3719.
Sha’Kirim “Sha’Ki” Brown
