The end of the project is very near and I thought we all need some words of encouragement to help motivate you to reach that finish line!

This is the final opportunity for learners to access the necessary assistance for their Workshop #2 for spring 2022. I have been holding study support sessions where the learners come in and complete assignments while I am online with them. Sometimes a learner needs help; sometimes I am merely task support. We begin the process at 1 pm during flipped time in my Zoom. Many learners are finding this helpful. This is available to learners that are on or off campus. Please join us this week in Zoom.
As our 10th graders are studying the Holocaust, I am reminded of the unfortunate history of the Jews in Europe. In Shakespeare’s day, in England, Jews were considered subhuman. In plays and stories of that time, the Jews were always supposed to be the bad guys, and, ultimately, the losers. Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice” has the Jewish money lender, Shylock, lose his court case at the end of the play, conforming to the accepted values of the day. However, Shakespeare does insert a speech by Shylock where he says: “If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die?” What is Shakespeare saying here? Is he going against the accepted prejudice of the day? Check it out!
As a school counselor, these are exciting times. We signed three learners up this week with the Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) Student Services. DOR administers the largest vocational rehabilitation and independent living programs in the country. Vocational rehabilitation services are designed to help job seekers with disabilities obtain competitive employment in integrated work settings. Independent living services may include peer support, skill development, systems advocacy, referrals, assistive technology services, transition services, housing assistance, and personal assistance services.
DOR believes in the talent and potential of individuals with disabilities. DOR invests in the future through creativity, ingenuity, and innovation.
Did you know our current 50-star flag was designed as part of a high school project by 17-year old Robert Heff? It was 1958, and there were only 48 states at the time, but Heft had a hunch Hawaii and Alaska would soon be granted statehood. His teacher gave him a B- but went on to update the grade to an A after Heft submitted his design to the White House, eventually leading to a call from President Eisenhower that it had been selected as the official U.S. flag. Keep this in mind, especially when celebrating Flag Day on June 14th

Learners in my “Never Again” Genocide Studies project are preparing to go on a field trip to the Holocaust Museum in Los Angeles on Wednesday, April 13th. We are looking forward to a fantastic learning opportunity and a day away from the regular hustle and bustle of classes. Parents and learners, please check your emails for a link to the field trip interest form. We need confirmation of who will be attending no later than by end of day Monday! This week we are putting together our Reel Physics projects. Please make sure to carefully read the rubric and explain your project using scientific vocabulary and concepts. A key component of justification is using the correct language. This leads credibility to your argument and ensures that you can apply concepts to real life situations. Don’t forget to join Office Hours if you need support with the project or missing assignments. We will be closing up this workshop after Spring Break so be ready to move forward!
The Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) is our plan that describes Empower Generations/Innovation Studios vision and goals for learner success. Our learner input is valued and in addition, the state requires that we include feedback from our learners and staff. The 2021-22 LCAP Survey is now available for Learners . Parents it is important for Learners to fill out the survey. They should have received a email TITLED LCAP SURVEY. The information gathered from this survey will help us to create our plan. Please take a moment to give us your feedback about the programs and services we provide.. Your responses will be anonymous.

Now that we are back on Fridays, I will be running a game of Dungeons and Dragons for some of the learners on certain Fridays. If your learner would like to play, or learn how to play or even just be around and learn what the is or about, they can come talk to me.
ELPAC State testing begins today and will happen all week long from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM. If you are a learner that will be testing please make sure you know your testing day and be prompt. Testing will be held at the AVPH building. For any further information and questions please see Ms. Dani.
ELPAC Test Dates: Monday April 11th through Friday April 15th
The 9th and 10th graders will be grouped together and the 11th and 12th graders will be together to complete testing. ELPAC tests include Listening, Reading and Writing. Speaking is done one on one.
Length of Tests:
Speaking – 30 min. / Listening – 35 min. / Reading – 60 min. / Writing – 65 min. /
