Messages from the EG Staff

Ms. Kim – Guide

There are only TWO WEEKS left of school! This time can be exciting but overwhelming at the same time. Please remember to reach out to one of your guides or staff if you have any questions about missing assignments, grades, or simply just want to vent about your stresses! Remember, our goal is to help serve you in order to be successful. I encourage you to ask questions, seek help when needed, and set daily goals for yourself that will help to make you feel accomplished at the end of the day. I believe in you guys, let’s finish strong!

Ms. Marian – Guide

There are 2 weeks left in this semester. Stay strong till the end! Continue to work on submissions and make certain that you are giving your best effort to every step of your assignment/project. Please log into Zoom for assistance in completing and making corrections, and I will gladly help you. Let’s stay empowered to be our best selves.

Often, when I have asked a friend whether they have read a popular book, they often say, “No, but I saw the movie.” Generally, when a book is made into a movie, it is because the book is very popular. The movie may be very good, but is it as extensive or complete as the book? Books go into greater detail, character study and action. Many times I have convinced my friends, who have already seen the film, to read the book. Every time, they have agreed that the book was much more entertaining. I love movies, and worked for many years in that business, but I have always preferred the book before the film. Reading is one of man’s greatest gifts!

June is Pride Month. Every year, during the month of June, the LGBT community celebrates in a number of different ways. Across the globe, various events are held during this special month as a way of recognizing the influence LGBT people have had around the world. Why was June chosen? Because it is when the Stonewall Riots took place, way back in 1969. Pride Month is so important because it marks the start of huge change within the LGBT+ community, as well as the wider societal implications. Although attitudes and injustice still remain, we have come a long way since the riots of 1969 and by continuing in this long standing tradition we continue to raise awareness, improve the attitudes of society and encourage inclusiveness. This month, we honor the resilience of LGBTQI+ people, who are fighting to live authentically and freely. As a society, we must recommit to delivering protections, safety, and equality to LGBTQI+ families so that everyone can realize the full promise of the USA.

Ms. Jeanette – Guide Support/Care Team

We are almost to the end of the Passion Project! Learners have been showing high levels of grit as they research and practice skills related to their passion.

As a reminder, your rough draft is due Tuesday. Your rough draft should include steps on how-to perform the skill you researched as well as key academic skills that we have been practicing such as transition words, a correctly formatted thesis statement, supporting your claims with evidence, and utilizing citations.

Make sure to attend the Zoom workshop this week so that you can get feedback from Guides and peers in order to revise your rough draft.

I can’t wait to hear more about your passions and growth!

Ms. Tanya – Care Team
