Ms. Kim – Guide

Hello families & learners!

We are more than halfway done with the Young Critics project! This past week we learned about theme and what role that plays in a story. Learners also applied that new knowledge to their chosen movie/book/TV show where they found the theme of their story in order to begin writing their review section. This week, we will take a closer look at the work learners have completed so far and start to put it together in order to have a successful review in the end!

Reading non-fiction books can be fun! Many people assume they are just for information, and not exciting or interesting. Non-fiction includes history and biographies. If you are interested in any event in the past, or about a famous person or celebrity, there are many wonderful books available. Just Google your interest and discover many exciting choices.

Meeting with the Department of Rehabilitation to find additional programs that offer services to some of our learners, such as helping them prepare for workplace success, develop social skills, strengthen communication skills, career interest, academic and occupational training, support with college and career classes, independent living skills, additional resources and disability support.

Happy February!

We have been busy working on updating files and improving our site daily. Please update any information as needed. We will continue to work together to make all of the learners’ high school experience a great one.

A little note on the side, my favorite author is Nicholas Sparks. Although his style of writing is different from others, I love the message behind his writing. Who is your favorite author and writing style?

If you have any questions, concerns, comments or suggestions please feel free to contact me. My email address is Roselia.Calderon@Empowergenerations.org

Parents and Learners,

Last week we were working on Pythagorean Theorem, inner angles of triangles, Scaling, and set design. Our students have been working diligently to understand these concepts and participation is amazing, both in class and digitally. Our students are showing true grit. We are starting week 4, which means we are over half way through our project. Please check in with your students to see if they are in need of any extra help. I’m here to help!

We are halfway through our project cycle! Today is DAY 14 of the English Language Arts Challenge project. You have 7 more challenge days to go! Are you starting to build habits? Are the challenges becoming easier to complete each day? Everything worth doing takes perseverance, determination, and practice!

Exercising is the way!

Our daily walks with learners have been very beneficial. Exercise helps people lose weight and lower the risk of some diseases. Exercising regularly lowers a person’s risk of developing some diseases, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure. Exercise also can help keep your body at a healthy weight. Exercise can help a person age well.

Our learners seem more happier and refreshed after our daily walks. We will continue to keep up this routine for the well-being of our learners. My goal is for our learners to actively walk and exercise daily while at home.

Acute Design Update

We are halfway through the project! Great job on staying on-top of your work as you build Geometric Reasoning skills. At this point you should have a completed play analysis, a ground plan, and an understanding of transformations and scaling. We will continue to explore angle relationships as we work to design front and rear elevations going forward!
