Happy Monday learners and families!
I hope everyone had a nice and relaxing spring break. This week is the last week of the project cycle and learners will be focusing on the last final edits to their projects and presenting their knowledge through their POLs. I am so excited to hear about the cool stuff the learners have created based on what they have learned throughout the 6 weeks of the project! Let’s finish out this project cycle strong. You got this!
Ms. Marian – Guide
I hope that the spring break was restful, and I hope that you are excited to share! I have been hearing about some of the activities that our learners are preparing for our “Who done it?” POLs and I think it’s going to be super exciting! Please check for your presentation date in your Google classroom.
Bob – Education Specialist
Many of our learners are participating in the program called iPERFORM. This group of specialists stop by weekly and introduce our learners to the skills needed for performing. This includes any art form performed before an audience, i.e. drama, dance and music. It has been my experience that working with these skills gives learners more self assurance and poise for the real world of adulthood. I’ve known many people who studied acting, for example, and found that they were much more successful at job interviews, teamwork and communication. This, in turn, made their careers much more successful and rewarding.

I did a campus tour at San Joaquin Valley College last week so that I could get a better feel of their programs and courses that they offer. I was also interested in what the experience would be like for one of our potential learners. SJVC is a local college here in the Antelope Valley that did an on-campus presentation at Empower Generations. SJVC has 17 different campuses all over California. San Joaquin Valley College prepares graduates for professional success by offering Baccalaureate and Associate of Science Degrees and Certificates of Completion in business, medical and technical career fields. The college serves a diverse student population with a common interest in professional development through career-focused higher education. The college identifies and responds to the educational and employment needs of the communities it serves. I am also working on bringing in Antelope Valley College to do an on-campus presentation for our learners.
Mr. Sean
One of my favorite children authors is Dr. Seuss. Did you know that The Doctor Seuss book Green Eggs and Ham uses only 50 different words. Doctor Seuss wrote the book on a bet from his publisher that he couldn’t write a book with fewer words than The Cat in the Hat, which has 225. It’s astonishing that such a famous, iconic book like Green Eggs and Ham has so few words. It takes a brilliant mind to accomplish this!

Workshop Cycle 2 has come to an end! You should be proud of your hard work and diligence in completing your classes. I am looking forward to learning about how you are applying your knowledge of the 10 stages of genocide to your genocide studies research in your POLs as we return from Spring Break. I am also looking forward to viewing the Public Service Announcements created by our Health class. I am certain that our leaners will use their creative skills to raise awareness and educate us about issues related to sexual and reproductive health.

Congratulations on completing Cycle 2! This week we are completing our final round of MAP testing as well as presenting our Cycle 2 projects. I am excited to see the Reel Physics POLs. In these POLs, learners are presenting their very own stop motion animation clip as well as analyzing the motion within the clip. The clips were super fun to make and showcased learner creativity and scientific analysis. Can’t wait to hear your presentations!
Speaking of our videos, SHOUTOUT to Jordan J. And Paul R. Jordan and Paul took initiative and worked diligently to finish their videos before anyone else. I hope you are proud of yourself for being creative, dedicated, and proactive!
