Meet Ryan Rivas, AKA Rivas, the new Educational Facilitator for English and History at Empower Generations High School. Rivas is poised to make a meaningful impact at Empower Generations, bringing fresh energy and a wealth of experience to his role. Let’s get to know Rivas!

Please tell us about your background and how you came to be at Empower Generations.

Rivas: I have been in education for 17 years. Eleven of those years were in secondary education, and the last six have been focused on community college teaching. My background is in Communication Studies, specifically in general communication, computer-mediated communication, critical studies, and leadership.

I came to Empower Generations and iLEAD on the recommendation of a friend after confiding in them that I needed a change in my career. I’m looking forward to this new path!

What are you most excited about as you enter your role at Empower Generations?

Rivas: I’m excited to work with the staff, who have been very supportive and kind. I’m also looking forward to committing to education in a new and innovative way that will reignite my passion for serving learners and, by extension, our community.

Please name three to five fun/interesting facts about you. Extra credit for lots of details.

Rivas:

  1. I had the opportunity to present my graduate research at a Communications Studies conference.
  2. I’m a huge fan of things like Star Wars, Comics, Harry Potter and other assorted fandoms.
  3. I’m working on certificates for Information Technology and Cybersecurity. I
  4. worked at my college’s online radio station doing music and talk shows during my undergraduate work.
