Mrs. Rosiey:
Hello, families and learners!
Happy May! This will be a busy month here at Empower Generations. Please be sure to check all the communication we send. Remember our communication comes via email, ParentSquare, and the Monday Message. If you don’t see all the communications, please reach out to me.
Here are some updates for this week:
- May will be busy with MAP and CAASPP testing. Please be on the lookout for dates and be ready to test.
- Reregistration forms will go out soon. We need any updated information and forms for next school year. You will receive an email notification, which will take you to the Reg-Online portal.
- Do you know someone who wants to enroll with us? We have one more info night coming on May 24 for incoming learners. Please invite them to RSVP here.
- Are you following us on social media yet? We are on Facebook and Instagram!
- School IDs and computers are mandatory for attending in person. Please bring your ID and computer every day.
Mr. Moody:
As April comes to an end, I would like to wrap up Counseling Awareness Month by emphasizing that counseling awareness is for everyone. Given the mental health decline seen in the United States recently, it’s clear that promoting and maintaining good mental health will greatly benefit many people. According to the CDC’s latest mental health statistics:
- More than 50 percent of all Americans will be diagnosed with a mental illness or disorder at some point in their lifetime.
- One in five Americans will experience a mental illness in a given year.
- One in five children, either currently or at some point during their life, have had a seriously debilitating mental illness.
- One in 25 Americans lives with a serious mental illness, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or major depression.
- California’s school student-to-counselor ratio still ranks near the bottom nationally.
Mr. Twigg:
Summer is coming… And with it, the end of the semester! We have only seven weeks left in the school year! Time to plan for the end. By now everyone should be able to log in and check their Schoolytics to see how many assignments they have completed. If you don’t know how to log in to Schoolytics, then you are in danger. Talk to me or any of the guides to help you, and once you have access to Schoolytics you’ll be able to track all your assignments and academic progress. Being able to track and plan your progress is super important to being successful and is a good habit to build!

CAASPP testing is quickly approaching! All 11th graders will be required to test within the window of May 22-24. Please see below for a sneak peek of the schedule. Note that the links don’t work here, but you will receive this information with working links.
What is CAASPP?
The CAASPP System is designed to give information to facilitators, learners, and their families about what learners know and are able to do and whether they are on track to be ready for success in college or career when they graduate from high school. The Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments are part of the state testing system called the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress or CAASPP. This tests learners’ knowledge and skills in English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics.
Why is CAASPP important?
Test results are one piece of information about how your child is doing in school. Together with report cards and other information, test results tell us if your learner is on track to succeed in higher grades, college and career. For learners in 11th grade, these results are used by some colleges in California to decide how ready learners are for college-level classes.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to get in touch with me at kimberly.martinez-melchor@empowergenerations.org.

We are coming close to the end of our semester. If you have any questions regarding completing your assignments, or if you need help with specific skills, please reach out now so that we can help you get through. There are about three weeks until state testing, and the learning you are experiencing now will help you then.
If you need to reach me, please email marian.tell-coffield@empowergerations.org, I look forward to hearing from you.
I am working with many learners who either learn from home full-time or are learning from home some days. Please pop in to see me in Flipped Time. My Zoom meeting ID is 882 9053 3901 and the pass code is MsTC. Come get help, and get work submitted with me. There’s no need to be lost or confused. I am here every day to work with you. Remember that completed school work equals attendance. Just being there does not equal attendance. Showing up equals understanding and knowledge.
Ms. Tanya: Guide:
Spring 2023 MAP testing sessions will take place May 30 through June 2. All learners are required to MAP test. Learners may attend MAP testing on campus or log in to Zoom for virtual testing starting at 8:30 AM on Tuesday, May 30.
What to bring:
- Your school-assigned computer or your personal computer.
- Your computer charger.
- Your favorite headphones. (We will have some headphones available on campus for learners who need them.)
- Snacks and water to keep your energy up!
Note: Those testing virtually will be required to have their cameras on for testing.
We encourage all learners to test on campus if they can! We have seen time and again that learners tend to be more focused if they are testing in person rather than virtually.
I’m looking forward to seeing you all for testing!
Ms. Jeanette: Guide:
Our end-of-the-year review is underway! For our final unit of Plant the Moon, learners will be completing daily warmups, questions of the day, and science readings. These activities will serve to reinforce ideas learned throughout the year and ensure all learners are prepared to go forward.
Please be sure to complete all assigned activities to demonstrate your growth and competency.
