Ms. Rosiey:

Hello, Families and Learners!

I want to personally invite you all to our new campus Grand Opening on March 30, 2023! This event will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. We want you to be part of this event. Please RSVP. I hope you can all join us. This is for you! Here are some updates for this week:

• Thursday, March 24, is a minimum day!
• Learner Led Conferences will continue March 23-24. If you haven’t signed up for yours, reach out to your Advisor!
• School IDs and computers are mandatory when coming in person. Please bring your ID and computer every day.
• Off-Site Agreements are still available if you haven’t filled yours out. To go off site, you will need to have turned in your signed agreement. This is for the safety of all. No agreement means you cannot go off site for lunch.

Mr. Moody:

This is so important that I am sending it out again. If you’re planning to go to college or a trade school and may need financial assistance, please complete the FAFSA as soon as possible. Federal Student Aid is the largest provider of financial aid for college in the US. FAFSA will help you understand and apply for aid and manage your student loans today. If you have financial need, are a US citizen or eligible noncitizen, and are enrolled in or will be enrolled in an eligible degree or certificate program at your college or career school, you can apply. The FAFSA formula doesn’t expect students or families to use all their adjusted available income to pay for college. The formula allocates 50 percent of a dependent student’s adjusted available income to cover college expenses and anywhere from 22 to 47 percent of parents’ available income. You can apply online at studentaid.gov, or you can fill out a paper form and mail it in.

Hello, everyone! We have begun our preparations for Spirit Week! Results from our Ambassador/Coordinator survey have been posted in your advisory Google Classroom. We need help preparing for Spirit Week! If you’d like to volunteer, please attend the Student Body Meeting on Thursday during Flipped Time!

Happy Monday, learners and families! During my service learning class, learners have been exploring why volunteering and community service are important to their overall educational experience. By volunteering, learners can get real, hands-on experience that will teach them so much about the world that a book cannot. Are you trying to find more ways to get involved and give back to your community? If so, read the article here to explore the different ways you can get involved with your community!

Ms. Marian: Guide:

Happy Move it Monday! This week we are considering when we can work out throughout the week. Exercise can sometimes become neglected due to our busy everyday schedules. Did you know that movement is one of the easiest ways to help avoid diseases, feel better emotionally, and maintain a healthy weight? Exercise is another part of self-care. It doesn’t matter what you choose to do for exercise as long as you get moving.

We are continuing the Learner Led Conferences. If I am your advisor, please sign up here for a time slot.

I am working with many learners who either learn from home full-time or are learning from home some days. Please pop in to see me in Flipped Time. My Zoom meeting ID is 882 9053 3901 and the pass code is MsTC. Come get help, and get work submitted with me. There’s no need to be lost or confused. I am here every day to work with you. Remember that completed school work equals attendance. Just being there does not equal attendance. Showing up equals understanding and knowledge.

Ms. Tanya: Guide:

Our “Finding Your Roots” Genealogy and Ancestry Project is well under way. Learners are focusing on authentic problem-solving and global research and analysis through informative text application and social history through Interviews. The driving question guiding their research is “How can I create personal connections using my family history? Learners are tasked with finding out more about their family backgrounds and ancestries by using their critical-thinking skills and analyzing census, birth, and death records. Understanding their ancestry will help learners relate to the variety of backgrounds, ethnicities, nationalities, and experiences represented in literature. Learners will be making direct connections between themselves and the history around them by tracking their families’ story through time and space. Tracing family roots back through generations can help learners connect more deeply with a sense of self by learning about their families’ pasts—where they came from, who they were, what they did, the trials they overcame, the accomplishments they achieved, the dreams they had. This project is also designed to help learners be more resilient and reflective. Let’s face it: life is hard. Every learner’s family members have likely faced terrible tragedies and heartache. They may have faced things that seem almost impossible to overcome. But they did overcome them. Learning about their stories and how they got through difficult times can give someone the courage they need to keep going and make them more resilient when facing challenges.

Ms. Jeanette: Guide:

Happy Monday! Thank you to all the learners who participated in our on-site labs and demonstrations this week! In our first demonstration, learners ran a current through a piece of graphite. They made predictions about what would happen, why that might happen, and how knowing about the periodic table could help us predict. It was great fun to see the graphite filament incandescence as well as to experiment with adding extra filaments or batteries to the apparatus.

Our live flower dissection was also a success! Learners demonstrated high levels of curiosity as they took apart lilies, identified structures, and determined the importance of plant reproduction in sustainable farming. Several learners also ran their own mini experiments with the microscopes!

I loved hearing all of your thoughts, questions, and wonder last week. I hope to do more on-site labs soon, so keep an eye on your Plant the Moon Announcements!
