Empower Generations messages from our staff

Please see below for messages from our staff to you!

Ms. Rosiey: Office Manager:

Hello, Empower Generations families and learners!

Sandy Dahl 9.11It’s the middle of September already! The Empower Generations team is here to support learners and families in any way that we can. Please reach out to any of us for anything that you may need. Here are some updates:

  • Learners, you are required to bring your school ID to campus every day.
  • LP 1 ends this Friday, September 15. Have your samples in, and don’t get marked absent!
  • September 28 will be a minimum day for all learners. Families, please pick up your learners by noon.

Mr. Twigg: Education Specialist:

Welcome to another week of your educational career! The LP is coming to an end soon, so please check your Schoolytics and be sure your work completion is above 90 percent. By the end of the week, it should say 100 percent. If not, you’ve got some work to do!

I’ll be available as always to help you get your work done. If you’d like to schedule an appointment with me, just ask in person or email me!

Ms. Marian: Guide/Advisor:

This week we explored the idea for emergency preparation in the event of a fire. This preparation was practiced at school and online. I challenge you to consider your preparedness and emergency plans. In the event of flood, earthquake, fire, or storm, what would you do?

Monday is September 11, the memorial of an attack on our country. This day is known as a National Day of Service. Please take a moment to be of service to someone.

“Never forget what we can do together.”

Ms. Tanya: Guide/Advisor:

I am excited to further explore the events of the Salem Witch Trials with Cohorts C & D this week in preparation for our novel study. We will be investigating some of the major theories to explain how and why the Salem Witch Trials took place. Learners will be using a detective mindset to explore the reasons behind this horrific event in early US history. Cohorts A & B will be creating a timeline to track the events of WWII.

Ms. Jeanette: Guide/Advisor:

I loved everyone’s curiosity and questioning last week! The on-site labs we completed (see featured images above) were very successful, as everyone made observations and dove into the “why” behind natural phenomena.

Cohorts A and B explored the difference between chemical and physical reactions in the kitchen.

Cohorts C and D investigated the connection between velocity and potential energy with a Lego car lab.

This week is the end of the LP. We will be closing out the LP with a performance task in each class to be sure you understood the concepts covered.

Empower Generations science September 2023

Cohorts A and B need to know…

  • How to calculate protons, neutrons, and electrons in an atom
  • How to differentiate between chemical and physical changes
  • How to identify the type of bond (covalent, ionic, or metallic)
  • How to make a fraction and a percent
  • How to calculate operations with fractions

Cohorts C and D need to know…

  • How to find the kinetic or potential energy of a system
  • How to identify the force at work
  • How to calculate work done on an object
  • How to solve one-step equations
  • How to graph a linear equation

Please be sure to study and review your assignments from the last three weeks. If you are feeling unsure or stuck, schedule time with Ms. Jeanette or Ms. TC for support. You’ve got this!

Mr. Troy: Care Team & CTE Guide:

Hello, Culinary Families! Just wanted to post a reminder for what to do if you are either independent study or miss a lab day (Wednesday). The options are to follow the instructions in Google Classroom and complete the lab at home. This does mean cooking the assigned dish at home and then posting the required photos! Or you may schedule a Friday to come in and do a make-up lab with me! Thank you. Hope to see you in class Mondays and Wednesdays.

Ms. Dani: Care Team & CTE Guide:

Hope you had a nice weekend! We have officially started the Cosmo Corner Club
(everything cosmetology, including barbering). If you are interested in joining, we will be meeting every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:45 to 3:30 PM. This will be a learner-led club, which means you the learner will share and teach a skill you know or explore an interest you have. From time to time, I will teach a skill some have expressed interest in. Please come see me or email me at danielle.padilla@empowergenerations.org if you have any questions! Have a great week, everybody!
