Messages from the EG Staff
School Counselor Brian Moody
Hello, I am Brian Moody, School Counselor. I’m excited to join such an innovative and forward-thinking program that will motivate and support all learners. I previously worked with foster and probation youth in juvenile hall, camps, group homes, residential facilities, and schools throughout Los Angeles County. My goals are to provide guidance, support, understanding and encouragement to all students. I hope to empower our students to reach their full potential, by supporting them during difficult times, while guiding them towards success.
Education Specialist Bob Gibson
My name is Bob Gibson (Mr. Bob), and I am the education specialist at Empower Generations. I have the pleasure of working with those learners who need that extra help to be successful at furthering their education.
This is my 2nd year with iLEAD, and my 12th year working with special needs. Previously, I was in the film and television business as a production manager, casting director and on-set acting coach. Working directly with actors and their skills, allowed me to develop a discerning eye for the subtleties of performance, which, I believe, is a skill that has carried over to helping learners excel in their education. Although this year has been a particular challenge with Covid, I am excited about our future at EG, and am looking forward to helping our learners succeed, independently, in the real world.
Workshops With Ms. Kim
Welcome back learners and families, and Happy 2022! I hope this message finds you well. I am looking forward to an exciting new semester and watching our learners grow and reach their potential.
For the upcoming project cycle I will be leading a project called “Young Critics”. This project will give learners the opportunity to voice their opinion and write a review on a chosen movie, TV show, or book. Throughout the six weeks they will focus on improving their writing skills and learn about different techniques needed to create a successful review.
At the end, learners will publish their review on a class website where their peers and staff at Empower will have the opportunity of reading and commenting on their reviews!
Ms. Tanya
Welcome back, learners! Are you ready for a new year and a new challenge? 30-day health challenges are rising in popularity and many studies support doing something consistently for 21 days or longer to build habits, change our weaknesses, and take our strengths to the next level. Ever wish you could spend more class time learning the things you want and work on the things you’d like to improve?
For the first workshop cycle of 2022, we will be challenging Cohorts C & D to set, prepare for, and achieve a goal that will improve a weakness or use their strengths in English Language Arts. This project will be organized in such a way to give each learner the opportunity to try something new and make personally relevant progress toward what they need or want to achieve with a focus on English Language Arts!
Acute Design with Ms. Jeanette
Welcome to semester two! We are kicking off our first interdisciplinary workshop with a new STEAM Project: Acute Design. Acute Design will incorporate principles of geometry, algebra, and literacy as learners design a scale model for set design. Learners will explore the career of theatrical set design and see how professionals apply mathematics to both their designs and drafting skills. The main supplies needed in this six-week workshop will be a pencils, paper, a ruler, a protractor, graph paper, card stock, colored pencils, and a glue stick. If your family needs help acquiring any of the necessary supplies, please let Ms. Jeanette or Mr. Sean know. We can’t wait to see what you make!
Guide Support – Mr. Sean
As we enter a new semester, I am eager to see the amazing work and knowledge that our students gain. This semester may look a little different than last semester but it is definitely not unfamiliar. It is my belief that in these times, this is great practice, learners, to maintain a positive and a growth mindset.
We are here as a staff to help support you in your educational endeavors, no matter what the platform looks like. I cannot wait to see the growth that comes out of our learners this semester. As always, if there is anything you need. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me!
Mr. Rob – Care Team
My name is Mr Rob and while on campus I will be leading the learners in fitness and wellness for P.E credit. Each day while on campus, I will be setting aside 30-minute activities that will engage our learners in physical fitness. Learners will be able to fill out their P.E logs accordingly to meet their weekly goals. I believe by offering these daily activities weekly, learners will become more active and confident in fitness and wellness. If you have and questions please email me at robert.sterling@ileadinnovationstudios.org.
Mr. Troy – Care Team
Welcome back families, I am always available on campus for support. I love finding any opportunity to lend a hand and help you out! Don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
Mr. Antwan – Care Team/Sub
Happy New Year and welcome to 2022! The new year often gives people the inspiration to do better this year than in previous years; a new chance to improve life now and life in the future. Not sure where to start? Here are some ideas:
- Each month, go at least one week with no sodas
- Read at least two pages a day from a book
- Go outside for at least 30 minutes a day, whether it’s to play or just read
- Spend more time with those that are important to you
- Create the habit of saving $5 a month
- Go for a walk for 20 minutes a day
- Start learning a new language
- Get a part-time job and/or volunteer in the community
- Practice gratitude each day
- Become more organized
- Begin journaling
- Commit to better grades
- Keep a calendar
- Make plans for after high school
- Learn something brand new to you
What about you? How can you do better this year? How can we help you?
