Messages from the EG Staff
Ms. Kim – Guide
Hello, learners and families, we made it to Week 6 of the Young Critics project! This week, learners will focus on finalizing their review, choosing an image that goes along with their review, and even choosing a professional headshot for their profile! Learners will publish their final product on a public class website where they will be able to explore and read the work of the rest of their peers. Part of their final presentation will be to read and comment on at least 3 of their peers’ reviews in order to continue to add to existing conversations. This project will hopefully have taught learners the importance of finding their voice, formulating their own opinions, and sharing it with different audiences! Job well done, young critics.

If you like great graphic art work, and you like cool stories (i.e. sci-fi etc.), then go to a comic store and check out graphic novels. Many movies today have been adapted from this medium, such as Watchmen, The 300, Snowpiercer, and Sin City. Not only are they fun to read, but they really help your reading comprehension!
Brian – School Counselor
Did you know… Garrett Morgan, Black inventor (and son of an enslaved parent) with only an elementary school education, was credited for one of the first three-light systems that were invented in the 1920s, resulting in widespread adoption of the traffic lights we take for granted today.
We will start doing credit checks for all 10th and 9th graders to ensure that they are making positive progress academically.

Our learners are doing an incredible job with their set designs in math. I am very excited to see what they come up with in their presentations of learning! I am seeing many well thought out, artistic designs. Learners have also seemed to enjoy our kindness week. We have talked about a number of topics such as: respect, random acts of kindness, empathy, patience, and understanding. My advisory learners have shown tremendous growth. As POL week arrives, please make sure your learners are prepared and asking for help if they are in need. Thank you for always supporting our school community and your learners.
Tanya – Guide
Last Wednesday, learners helped each other spread positivity in our school one sticky note at a time. Learners were encouraged to write something positive, inspirational, or funny on a Post-It note. Learners were then encouraged to place it on the wall at school or in a virtual Jamboard. Learners are welcome to take a Post-It note from the wall if they feel like they need to feel uplifted or leave an encouraging message for learners to take.
Rob – Care Team
This week we’re reshifting our focus to teaching and showing our learners what Black history is all about. Our main focus as a staff is to give a deeper understanding to our learners by way of videos, courageous talks, and activities. We’re excited to continue to do our part as a staff to keep everyone educated and aware of black excellence.
If you have any questions or suggestions please contact me at robert.sterling@ileadinnovationstudios.org.
Jeanette – Guide Support/Care Team
We are reaching the end of our Acute Design project. This week we will be finalizing our designs and scale models as well as taking a post-assessment. The post-assessment helps measure your growth from the beginning of the project until now. Your goal for the post-assessment is to get a 70% or higher. This will show that you are competent in the topics covered during the project.
As a reminder, I am back to support with Cohorts C and D. Please check your Cohort Schedule for my Zoom link.
Mr. Troy – Care Team
Name 4 days of the week that start with the letter T. LAST WEEK’S ANSWER: today. Tomorrow. Tuesday and Thursday.
I saw what Mr. Bob was saying about graphic novels and I also think that is an awesome thing to look into. If not graphic novels then maybe try reading manga!
